The dependence of acoustic emission behavior on prior fatigue loading history

چکیده
Fatigue cracks are a major concern for aging metallic structures, as they can cause unexpected catastrophic failure. They often occur on hidden surfaces, e.g., under paint and rust or the interface between two structural layers, which makes visual detection difficult. Acoustic Emission (AE) is passive nondestructive evaluation (NDE) method that measures initiation progression of defects when structure continuously monitored. While using this method, has been successfully applied to monolithic composite fatigue life related cumulative AE count. However, if after crack initiated, relationship count may not be applicable. In paper, dependence behavior prior loading history studied modified compact tension specimens. The count, correlation plots, waveform characteristics shown dependent conditions in addition coupling state. Relative behaviors sensors trends illustrated by being independent discontinuities.

failure behavior assessing of wood strands under tensile loading using acoustic emission technique
with the aim of identifying failure mechanism in oriented strand boards, failure behavior of wood strands under tensile load was investigated using acoustic emission technique. resinated and unresinated strands were arranged at top, middle and bottom section of the board before pressing. tensile and acoustic emission tests were performed simultaneously on treated and control samples. using tens...
متن کاملEffects of Pretreatment Prior to Electroless Ni-P Plating on Fatigue Behavior of SAE 1045 Steel
Electroless Ni-P (EN) plating, as an important group of metallic coatings, employed in a wide range of industrial applications. The current work aims to investigate the effects of pretreatment process before EN plating on fatigue behavior of SAE 1045 steel. The specimens of rotating bending fatigue test were prepared from the steel in two series. A group of samples used in as-polished con...
متن کاملMonitoring and Failure Analysis of Corroded Bridge Cables under Fatigue Loading Using Acoustic Emission Sensors
Cables play an important role in cable-stayed systems, but are vulnerable to corrosion and fatigue damage. There is a dearth of studies on the fatigue damage evolution of corroded cable. In the present study, the acoustic emission (AE) technology is adopted to monitor the fatigue damage evolution process. First, the relationship between stress and strain is determined through a tensile test for...

Effect of the Loading Spectrum and History Length on Fatigue Life Distribution under Random Loading
One major source of error commonly encountered in determining the fatigue life of a given element arises from the loads involved, which are usually of random nature. As a rule, resistance analyses, carried out by simulation or tests, are done by using a loading history accounting for the real loads involved that is repeated indefinitely until failure is encountered. The result is one of the man...
